The changes to the provincial cabinet in the country’s economic powerhouse comes after the African National Congress (ANC) ordered Makhura to comply with its gender policy.
According to the governing party’s gender police, the cabinet needs to comprise of 60% female MECs.
Ramokgopa will be replaced by Mosupyoe in compliance with the policy.

In a statement on Friday, Makhura said Mosupyoe served as a councillor in the City of Tshwane from 2006 until 2016.
During this period, she also served as the MMC for Health and Social Development while being part of the social and economic cluster over the same period.
In 2011 she became the first female speaker of the City of Tshwane.
"I have decided to appoint Ms Morakane Mosupyoe as the MEC for the Department of Economic Development, Agriculture and Environment. Ms Mosupyoe is currently the Chairperson of the Social Development Portfolio Committee at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature,” Makhura said in a statement.
“Ms Mosupyoe is currently a member of the Provincial Executive Committee and also serves on the Provincial Working Committee of the African National Congress in Gauteng.
"I wish to thank Dr Kgosientso Ramokgopa the outgoing MEC for the sterling work he has done over the past four months. Dr Ramokgopa has done a great job towards unlocking investment and economic opportunities in all five corridors of our province."
Meanwhile, Ramokgopa has warned his successor of the challenges facing her in the new portfolio.
"I must say I have had the privilege of knowing her and I could not think of any better qualifying candidate. I wish her the best in the working with the premier to deliver on the mandate.”
