Saturday marks the first anniversary since the passing of King Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu.

Speaking at the commemoration on Friday night, Zikalala preached unity and respect in the Royal House.

“Today we are commemorating this painful day but at the same time we accept that our future is not dark, but it is bright because he left us with Ndlunkulu (Ntokozo Mayisela) and you Bayede Hlangalomhlabathi (Misuzulu ka Zwelithini),” he said.

“We will remember the good deeds that he did for the Zulu nation, especially the respect that he left behind at the Royal House. The respect at the Royal House that he (Zwelithini) taught you will not find anywhere.  We need to learn how to respect each other. The second is unity and supporting each other.”

The comments by Zikalala come after a protracted succession battle at the Royal House over the coronation of King Misuzulu.

Last week, the Pietermaritzburg High Court dismissed an application brought by Princess Ntandoyenkosi Zulu and Ntombizosuthu Zulu-Duma to stop the coronation of the King.

The High Court dismissed the application with costs and ruled that King Misuzulu’s coronation could go ahead.
