President Jacob Zuma has responded to Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa’s statement that he believes the woman who accused Zuma of rape.

In 2006 President Zuma was found not guilty of raping Fezekile Kuzwayo - the daughter of an old family friend.

In a statement released on Friday, the Presidency said it believes the rape allegations against President Zuma were properly considered by a court of law.

In a radio interview, Ramaphosa said he believes Khuzwayo was telling the truth when she said Zuma had raped her.

Ramaphosa also lauded Khuzwayo’s courage.

''I know how difficult and painful it is for a woman to garner up the courage to stand up and say 'yes, I was raped'.

''It must be one of the most difficult decisions that she has to make.''

In a terse statement, the presidency said ''the independence of the judiciary and the primacy of the courts are the final arbiters of disputes in society''.
