President ‘fine’, needs time to study Phala Phala report - Gungubele

Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele has called for patience as the pressure builds on President Cyril Ramaphosa following the release of the report by an independent panel into the Phala Phala saga.

On Wednesday, the panel handed over the report which found that there is sufficient evidence for a debate to impeach Ramaphosa.
Parliament will examine the findings in a one-day sitting next week to decide whether to push ahead with a vote to impeach the president.
Gungubele briefed the media on this week’s cabinet meeting.
Gungubele said Ramaphosa is “fine” and cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
“Remember you are dealing with the president here who is subjected to processes for something that happened in his own house and his own property.
“We are not dealing with someone who stole from anyone, it’s a unique development. It is being questioned in terms of whether it is compliant with the laws or not in the president has subjected himself to it.
“It’s not an easy decision, and I think let’s await the president to take an informed decision on the matter. He is an intelligent president.”
