Pretoria serial rapist guilty of 69 counts of rape, robbery

The High Court in Pretoria has found Sello Abram Maponya guilty of 69 counts of rape and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Maponya is accused of raping and robbing 56 women across Pretoria over a period of five years.
Judge Papi Mosopa handled down his verdict on Wednesday.
“The matter was postponed to 27 May for sentencing,” said spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng Lumka Mahanjana.
Maponya is believed to have started his attacks in 2014 in Tshwane suburbs, including Silverton, Nellmapius, Atteridgeville, Mamelodi and Olievenhoutbosch.
