The organisation announced the news on Wednesday.

Princess Charlene is a former Olympic swimmer, representing South Africa at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

The organisation says the Princess will help reinforce the SAOA's commitment to excellence, athleticism and community service.

“Princess Charlene's acceptance of the patronage reinforces SAOA's commitment to excellence, athleticism and community service. As a dedicated advocate for sports and youth development, she brings her passion and influence to support SAOA's mission and initiatives,” said the SAOA.

Meanwhile, the organisation has received two grants approved by the World Olympians Association for Service to the Community.

“Under the generous grants the WOA provides, SAOA will embark on two vital projects to promote sports, well-being and inclusivity in South Africa,” it said.
