Prison recovery rate at 74% - Correctional Services

The Department of Correctional Services says the Covid-19 recovery rate at prisons around the country stands at 74%.
The department released the latest figures in a statement on Saturday.
Spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says the department has recorded a total number of 2 245 cases, including 1 028 officials and 1 217 inmates.
The have been 1 663 recoveries.
“To date, 74% of cases have recovered and this is attributed to containment and treatment pillar of the disaster management trajectory for Covid-19,” says Nxumalo.

Nxumalo says there are currently 559 active cases in the department.
Only 57 of those cases are inmates.
He attributes the low number to rigorous testing and screening at the facility.
“This does demonstrate the extent the department has done towards giving care to those who have tested positive,” says Nxumalo.
