Private sector not transforming as quickly as it should

The Commission for Employment Equity released the 16th annual report into employment equity in the private and public sector for 2015 in Pretoria on Monday.

The report revealed that government remained the leader in employment equity, with black Africans occupying 73.2% of positions.

Top and senior management positions in the private sector remained a concern, with transformation taking place at a snail's pace.

The chairperson of the commission, Tabea Kabinde, said educational institutions were of particular concern.

"If you look at the private sector and the educational institutions, you will see that is where we find that top management is still very much in the hands of white individuals."

Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant said government would start enforcing employment equity.

"We are going to educate them through the commission, but this is going to be the last time and failing which - in the next years - we are going to force the implementation," the minister said.
