Probe into Abramjee ConCourt messages ‘close to completion’

Chief Justice Raymond Zondo has confirmed the investigation into the Ismail Abramjee text message is almost complete.
In a statement released on Thursday, Zondo said the outcome will be made public by the end of next week.
Zondo’s confirmation comes just some days after Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane confirmed that she referred the matter to the Justice Service Commission and the Hawks for investigation.
The controversial SMS sent by Abramjee relates to a Constitutional Court ruling on Mkhwebane’s rescission case.
The SMS was leaked to the media before the court ruled on the matter.
Zondo says within days after Abramjee’s SMS saga had arisen, Justice Kollapen informed him about his relationship with Abramjee.
“He also informed the Chief Justice and other Justices of the Constitutional Court that he and Mr Abramjee are members of the Pretoria Legacy Foundation and that he and Mr Abramjee do interact with each other, including by calling each other.
“He also pointed out that Mr Abramjee also attended a function sometime in March this year which was organised by the Pretoria Legacy Foundation in his (Justice Kollapen’s) honour,” says Zondo.
Mkhwebane’s investigation revealed 18 calls exchanged between Abramjee and a number registered under the name of Justice Jody Kollapen.
Zondo also confirmed Justice Dunstan Mlambo’s attendance at the same function.
“He said that he was meeting Mr Abramjee for the first time in that function and has never met him thereafter. Both
justices also stated that they never disclosed to Mr Abramjee any confidential information concerning any case at the court.”
