Boy shoots 12-year-old friend
Police in Thohoyandou said on Monday that they have launched an investigation into the murder of a 12-year-old boy, who was shot and killed by a younger friend at Maniini village in Limpopo.
Police said allegations are that the younger boy, 10, was frolicking with his 12-year-old friend, when he allegedly pulled the trigger. The older boy was fatally shot on Friday.
The victim was certified dead at the scene by paramedics.
“We are investigating the murder … how did the minor child acquire the gun and how it ended up in his hand? … the firearm law does not permit children to hold a firearm,” said police spokesman Major Mashudu Malelo.
The suspect, who was not in police custody as he is a minor, was being assessed by a correctional services officer, said Malelo.
No one has claimed ownership of the gun used in the shooting, said Malelo, adding that: “The firearm has been sent for ballistic test”.
