Probe launched into rapist Ninow’s possession of cell phone in prison

Convicted rapist Nicholas Ninow is under investigation after he was found in possession of a cell phone.

Ninow is currently serving life imprisonment at the Baviaanspoort prison for raping a seven-year-old girl at a Dros restaurant in Pretoria.
The Department of Correctional Services says the cell phone was found during a search by officials.
Spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says Ninow has been charged.
"Offender Ninow has been charged in terms of section 23(1) of the Correctional Services Act and will be reprimanded accordingly. A process which may involve the withdrawal of privileges for a specific privileged for a period of time and other punitive measures.”
He says there is an investigation underway to determine how the cell phone was smuggled in and who was involved.
Cell phones are classified as contraband items in prison.
