Probe into Schweizer-Reneke principal amid claims of racism
Updated | By OFM
The headmaster of Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke in the North
West, which is under fire for alleged racism, will now also be in the
spotlight.
MEC of Education in the province, Sello Mahari, says the principal would also be under investigation following allegations from community members that he has in the past also displayed racist behaviour.
Mahari said that he has instituted a three-day investigation into the headmaster and will decide on whether the principal will be suspended or not.
"We are going to question him, question some teachers, question some witness and on Tuesday we are going to get a report," says Mahari.
This comes after the school made national headlines earlier this week following a picture showing black pupils seated separately from a larger group of white pupils at another desk.
The teacher of the class, Elana Barkhuizen, was immediately suspended on Thursday following a meeting with the School Governing Body and other stakeholders.
