The hand was discovered by security personnel on Friday, and police were called to the scene.

The building caved in nearly three weeks ago, killing 34 people, including a construction worker who died in hospital a week ago.

Nine people are still in hospital.

A week ago, rescue workers ceased operations after it was officially confirmed that only 62 individuals had been on-site during the collapse and not 81 as previously estimated.

Police spokesperson Christopher Spies said no further body parts were found.

“The human remains were recovered and sent to the SAPS laboratory for forensic analysis in an effort to determine the origin and whether it could be linked to a victim who was rescued during the search and rescue operation.

“This discovery forms part of the ongoing police probe. An inquest docket is being investigated.”
