Dlamini-Zuma briefed the media on Tuesday on the Covid-19 regulations which will end up replacing the state of disaster.

“I think yes, it was necessary because I think we would’ve experienced many more deaths if we hadn’t. I think that even if more people died the jobs would’ve been affected still. I think it was necessary.”

The country has been under a national state of disaster since the start of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic some two years ago.

Since then, the virus has claimed the lives of close to 100 000 in South Africa while close to 4 million people have been infected.

Dlamini-Zuma says that the state of disaster will come to an end at the beginning of April.

It will be replaced by new regulations which will equip the government to manage the highly transmissible virus.
