A Newcastle Magistrate's Court prosecutor was convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl, the National Prosecuting Authority in KwaZulu-Natal said on Thursday.
NPA spokeswoman Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said Remmington Zamokuhle Ngema was convicted on Tuesday in the Pietermaritzburg High Court sitting in Madadeni.
Ramkisson-Kara said Ngema, who had pleaded not guilty, was convicted of raping the 13-year-old in October 2011 while she was in his care.
Ngema was denied bail and sentencing was expected on March 28.
The director of public prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal was quoted by Ramkisson-Kara as saying: "This sentence shows that nobody is above the law and anyone who commits such crimes will face the full might of the law."
