Protest expected at WEF Africa
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The People's Economic Forum will be staging, what it calls, a peaceful march outside the Durban International Convention Centre this morning.
That's the venue for the three day World Economic Forum on Africa.
The organisation says the wealth of the country still lies in the hands of the elite - and they are calling on the South African government to prioritise the equal distribution of wealth among all citizens.
The forum's Desmond D'Sa says the march will start at the City Hall - and has a very clear message.
Meanwhile, the SAPS in the province has called on protestors to refrain from violence when marching and adhere to the law.
Spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo says they will be monitoring the marches to ensure the safety of all present at the Durban ICC.
"It has been declared a major event and in view of securing a major event, the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure has put security measures in place to ensure the safe deliverance of the event," says Naidoo.
