Protesters barricade roads in Boshoek
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Protesters barricaded the road
between Boshoek and Ledig in North West with burning tyres on Monday.
The community is unhappy over a lack of housing in the area.
Boshoek Ward Committee member Daphne Semekane says the government has been making promises since 2013 but nothing has materialised.
“Since 2013, the nation of Bafokeng has demolished our houses here in Boshoek. As we are speaking we are staying in tents.
“Now the land affairs have promised to buy us the land in Boshoek but now they have failed to come on board.
“They promised us that this year they would start with the development in the area here in Boshoek but they failed to come up with that promise,” she says.
The community is demanding that the local municipality and the provincial government address them.
North West police says while they are aware of the protest they can't confirm whether officials would address disgruntled community members.
“Not at this stage, but what we do is try and do our best to make sure that where possible we facilitate such demands," says police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone.
Motorists have been advised to make use of alternative routes.
