The Limpopo Department of Traffic says members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) took to the streets in protest against an infrastructure projects which have not been completed.

"The protest is because of the construction that is happening on the N1 bypass just as we enter Polokwane which is taking too long to complete because of  contractor Basil Reed, they have gone on voluntary liquidation," says spokesperson Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala.

EFF Limpopo Chairperson, Jossey Buthane, alleges that it has almost been a year since construction of the road began.

"There is a company that is called Basil Reed that was awarded a tender to reconstruct N1 road, since donkey years this road has not been getting finished.

"It's always under construction and the worst part it has been 8 months without operating. We are saying to them that it cannot be that you have a road like this that has not been completed for such a long time.

"When you must enter Polokwane from Gauteng, or from that side of the north you must use only two lanes. That is dangerous to our people. We need answers here and now. Imagine if this some small company or black company," says Buthane.

The road has since been reopened.
