Protesters disrupt Mashaba's first speech
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Newly-elected Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba's first address to city council was disrupted Tuesday morning by protesters.
Mashaba delivered his acceptance speech at the 2nd Ordinary meeting of the City of Johannesburg Council, but had to call in police to keep protesting workers from entering the council chamber.
The protesters claim they were DA activists in the run-up to last month's local government elections, but they have not been paid.
The EFF told Mashaba that he had to address the protesters first, before continuing with the business of the day.
Chaos then broke out between EFF members and the police, who kept the red berets from going back inside.
