Protestors block Kruger National Park gate

The Department of Community Safety in Mpumalanga has warned motorists who intend to travel to Kruger National Park to make use of the Phabeni Gate.

The department’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, says disgruntled community members blocked the R536 leading up to Kruger Gate on Wednesday morning.
It is reported that they are protesting against poor service delivery and have used large piles of sand to block the road.
Recently, the same community barricaded the same road, demanding the upgrading of the D4382 gravel road, which links nearby villages.
“The police are keeping a close eye on the situation to make sure that the road is opened as soon as possible. We are, however, condemning this in the strongest possible terms, and we appeal to communities to be very vigilant when they approach the affected area,” said Mmusi.
No arrests have been made.
