Protestors block R55 in Olievenhoutbosch
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The R55 in Olievenhoutbosch has been blocked by a group of protesting community members.

The protest erupted on Thursday due to anger over a lack of power in the area.
Metro police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba says the road has been blocked off with burning tyres and rocks.
"We can confirm that there is protest action on the R55 and Waterberg Road in Olievenhoutbosch. TMPD and other law enforcement agencies are currently on site and we advise motorists to avoid the above-mentioned streets.
“The issue that we know is service delivery related to electricity. What we know is that since the past two days the community has been without electricity but as a city we are attending to the issue, and we want it as a matter of urgency.”

Mahamba has urged motorists to avoid the affected areas, and if not has pleaded that they practice caution.
“At this stage we request that motorists avoid the affected streets. The situation is calm and TMPD will continue to be on the scene.”
