Disgruntled South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) members are accusing municipal officials of nepotism and corruption.

Municipality spokesperson Thipa Selala says police were called to assist after the situation got out of control.

"Today when we went to work we met with some people who blockaded both our entrances at the municipality. They were refusing workers to go in.

"That resulted in all the municipal workers returning back home. Services and operations were disrupted by a group that calls themselves Sanco.”

Selala says its uncertain whether or not operations will resume of Wednesday.

"We have left the situation in the hands of police and the intervention of police to handle the situation. So tomorrow we will see what is happening but the plan is to go back to work tomorrow.”

Efforts by Polokwane Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng to meet with Sanco leaders failed on Monday due to “internal leadership disputes within Sanco”.
