Protests in Diepkloof, Noordgesig

Residents of Diepkloof and Noordgesig in Soweto took to the streets on Friday in protest against poor service delivery.

The protesters barricaded the Soweto Highway with rocks and burning tyres.
Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says no arrests have been made but police are on scene to monitor the situation.
He is also not aware of any injuries.
Police are attempting to find an official to address residents on their grievances, Makhubele says.
The Johannesburg metro police has urges motorists to avoid the area and some of the roads remained closed on Friday.
Affected roads include Beyers Naude Drive and Immink Drive. Motorist can use Chris Hani Drive as an alternative.
