PSA mulling over govt’s 'positive' wage offer
A nationwide strike by government employees may have been averted for now, while public servants deliberate on the latest offer by government.
The Public Servants Association (PSA), representing some over 230 000 government workers, had approached the employer demanding a 6.5% wage increase.
The demand was met with a 2% counteroffer which was subsequently turned down.
Government later reassessed its position and offered a 3% increase along with other attached adjustments.

The PSA's Claude Naicker says it's this offer that their members are currently deliberating over but says for now it looks favourable.
"The proposal by the employer, although not what we set out initially where we asked for a 6.5% increase, but when you look at the 3% on the table with 1.5% pay progression and the cash gratuity, we come up close to what we actually demanded initially. It looks positive."
