Public Protector ruling on nudist beach 'an infringement of rights'
The KZN Naturist Association says it does not understand how a decision on the proposed nudist beach at Mpenjati could have been made public without notifying them first.
The Public Protector has ruled against the proposed nude beach near Trafalgar on the south coast.
Naturists applied to the municipality to have a stretch of beach declared an official nude beach with the first public hearings taking place three years ago.
Chairperson of the KZN Naturist Association, Christo Bothma believes the decision has denied them their rights to freedom of expression.
"I am totally shocked. We thought that we would be notified before the report goes public," he says.

The Concerned Citizens Group's Pastor Mike Effanga has welcomed the decision.
"We believe that the same set of information and facts that the Public Protector used was available for the municipality to have used more than two years ago to come to a wise decision that would be acceptable to the people and respectful of the current framework of municipal, provincial and national and law," he says.
