Public servants to get once-off allowance on Thursday

This is in terms of the public sector wage agreement that was reached by the government and public sector unions.

Civil servants are set to receive a monthly cash allowance of between R1 200 and R1 695 including the back pay to April 2021.

The deal included a 1.5% wage increase for employees who did not qualify for a pensionable increase.

“It should be noted that the Department of Public Service and Administration is also still busy with the implementation of the non-pensionable cash allowance for part-time employees. This will be finalized as soon as possible.

“The date for the implementation of the 1.5% pensionable increase which was also provided for in the Resolution 1 of 2021, will be announced soon, “said the department’s director-general Yoliswa Makhasi.

Makhasi says for members of the South African Police Service, the non-pensionable cash allowance will be paid by no later than 20 September.
