An 18-year-old pupil who was driving a vehicle that allegedly rammed into a group of pupils, killing one and injuring eight, has been arrested alongside his father, aged about 54, in Limpopo.

This follows an incident that occurred on Tuesday when a grade 12 pupil was allegedly driving a Nissan bakkie and lost control, crashing into 9 fellow pupils outside the Mothlatlego Machaba Secondary school in Ga-Motupa village in the Bolobedu area outside Tzaneen.

According to the police's Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, "Emergency medical services were called and the pupils were taken to the local hospital, but 14-year-old Koketso Raholane died on his arrival at the hospital. The others are still recuperating from serious injuries at their homes."

The 18-year-old suspect will be facing charges of culpable homicide, driving an unroadworthy motor vehicle, and driving a motor vehicle without a valid drivers license.

His father, the owner of the vehicle, will be facing a charge of permitting a person to drive a motor vehicle knowing that he does not have a valid drivers license.

Both suspects will appear in the Bolobedu Magistrate court this morning on Thursday.

Police investigations are still continuing.
