Pupil suspended for ‘bullying death’ at Mpumalanga school

A pupil at Entokozweni Secondary School in Kwaggafontein has been
suspended following an incident of bullying, which resulted in the death of
another pupil.
The victim died last Friday after he was involved in a fight with a fellow pupil at the Mpumalanga school.
Spokesperson for the Department of Education in Mpumalanga, Gerald Sambo, says it’s alleged the two pupils fought on 4 August.
“We received a disturbing report that two learners at this school allegedly had a physical altercation on 4 August 2021. It is alleged that one of these learners suffered physical injuries and was taken for medical treatment but subsequently passed away on 13th of August.”
Sambo says the department is concerned at the levels of bullying at schools.
"Incidents of bullying and violence of any form or nature have no place in our schools. We condemn such behavior in the strongest terms possible. We call to all our school communities to join us in condemning violence and to encourage learners to stop bullying."
Mpumalanga Education MEC Bonakele Majuba will visit the school on Monday.
