Queen accepts Cameron's resignation as UK PM

Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday formally accepted David Cameron's resignation as Britain's prime minister, an official said, before Theresa May visited Buckingham Palace be to confirmed as his successor.
"The Right Honourable David Cameron MP had an audience of the queen this evening and tendered his resignation as prime minister and first lord of the Treasury, which Her Majesty was graciously pleased to accept," the monarch's communications secretary said in a statement.
Theresa May will become Britain's second ever female prime minister on Wednesday when David Cameron steps down after a seismic referendum to leave the European Union that sent shockwaves round the world and wrecked his career.
Cameron held his final weekly question-and-answer session in parliament on Wednesday before tendering his resignation to Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.
