KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala says the death of Regent Queen Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu is a moment for the AmaZulu nation to strengthen their unity.
Zikalala delivered the eulogy at the Queen’s memorial service on Friday.
She passed away on Thursday last week following an illness.
The Zulu royal family has been rocked by claims that the late King Goodwill Zwelithini's will may have been forged.
This led Princess Ntandoyenkosi and Princess Ntombizosuthu, who are the daughters of King Zwelithini's first wife to seek an interdict and halt the execution of the will.
King Zwelithini's first wife, Queen Sibongile Dlamin,i has also approached the Pietermaritzburg High Court to interdict the coronation of a regent or king.
Zikalala says unity within the royal family is significant.
“We look to the Zulu royal family to be united so that it can also succeed in uniting the people of KwaZulu-Natal. Infightings within the royal family has a potential to divide the Zulu nation along warring factions and delay development.
“We pray for calm and peace and that the discussions within ubukhosi must ultimately be about the wellbeing of the Zulu nation, not its weakening or destruction. Instability and public display of differences in the royal family are harming the excellent reputation that the nation has enjoyed in the eyes of the public for many years.
“Let us always remember the wise saying that ‘Inkosi yinkosi ngabantu’.”
