A man was arrested and over 685kg of dagga, with an estimated street value of R1.3 million, seized near Uitenhage, Eastern Cape police said on Thursday.
An off-duty officer from the Uitenhage K9 unit was driving on the R335 around 9am on Wednesday when he pulled over to help a bakkie driver who appeared to have been in an accident, Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said.
The police officer became suspicious about the bakkie's load and asked the driver about it. He had a look and discovered it was dagga.
"The driver, a 40-year-old man from Port Elizabeth, was arrested on the spot for illegal dealing in dagga."
The man was expected to appear in the Kirkwood Magistrate's Court on Friday.
