Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Cocaine with a street value of R16 million has been seized by the Hawks during a massive drug bust at Durban Harbour.
The drugs were discovered by officials who conducted an inspection after receiving a tip-off about a container loaded with drugs inside a vessel from Brazil.
"The inter-agency teams worked together and ensured that the targeted container was identified and upon opening it was found that there were other contents,” Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says.
“While inspecting the container, a hidden compartment was discovered.”
A total of 32 cocaine bricks weighing approximately 1.1 kilograms each were discovered.
"No arrests had been made at this stage and investigations are continuing," adds Mhlongo.
