Updated | By Lonwabo Miso
"The case was postponed to Thursday for the bail application," Warrant Officer Malebo Khosana said.
Francois Fouche would remain in custody until then. Khosana said the abalone weighed 1180kg and had a street value of R2 million.
Fouche, 36, was arrested on Sunday around 8.30am on the N1 between Ventersburg and Winburg, after the Welkom Flying Squad received information that the car was transporting abalone.
He was driving from Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg.
