R2K said they will be calling on companies to pull their adverts from the SABC until steps are taken to address the crisis at the public broadcaster.

"SABC managament is completely deaf to the mounting criticism of Hlaudi Motsoeneng and the cabal around him so we are calling on advertisers to pull funding," R2K coordinator Micah Reddy said.

This comes a day after the SABC announced that Motsoeneng, the former COO, will return to his former position of Group Executive of Corporate Affairs.

The Supreme Court of Appeal last week dismissed Motsoeneng's application for leave to appeal a Western Cape High Court ruling, which set aside his permanent appointment as COO, making his appointment to the position invalid.

According to R2K, the crisis at the SABC is unprecedented.

"Under the watch of Hlaudi Motsoeneng and the current board, the SABC's financial situation has reached crisis levels. The SABC is expected to post a loss of R500 million this year," R2K said in an earlier statement.

The campaign called on unions, civil society, media workers and members of the public to join them in demanding that advertisers "stop bankrolling Hlaudi".
