R2K's convener in KwaZulu Natal Precious Mazibuko says the march to MTN is part of their a campaign to demand a reduction in the cost of data.

"Like we did with Vodacom last year, we want to ask MTN to cut down the cost of data and SMS and allow South Africans to communicate the way that they need to."

Mazibuko says although much has been done to ensure freedom of the press in South Africa, much more needs to be done.

"Civil society needs to join journalists to assist them trying to open up spaces for the media that allow journalists to get to the real stories that South Africans are talking about. In 2017, journalists still get harassed and intimidated by police and security personnel for simply doing their jobs.  South Africans can also own the national broadcaster and not allow individuals to corrode it."
