Police in Mpumalanga are offering a reward of R50 000 to anyone with information that leads to the arrest of a suspect who attacked well-known Ndebele artist Esther Mahlangu.

The 87-year-old was robbed at her home near Siyabuswa on 19 March.
During the robbery, the pensioner was assaulted and strangled with her hands tied with a cord.
Spokesperson for Mpumalanga police Selvy Mohlala says the suspect fled with a pistol and some cash.

“The suspect then searched her bedroom and took a safe containing a 7. 65 mm pistol as well as an undisclosed amount of cash and bundles of keys then fled the scene.”
“She was left helpless and she sustained some injuries on her face but was later found by her granddaughter who alerted neighbours.”
Mohlala says a manhunt has been launched for the unknown suspect but detectives have yet to make a breakthrough.
“Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the robbed items as well as subsequent conviction of the suspect is urged to come forth.”
