Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
Fugitive rabbi, Eliezer Berland, was expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates court on Thursday.
The rabbi is being sought in Israel for a number of sexual crimes and has been on the run for over four years.
He was taken into custody by Hawks’ and Interpol members in Sunninghill last week.
The 80-year-old is considered a holy man, as one of the leaders of the Breslov Hassidic movement in Israel and head of the Shuvu Bonim Seminary in Jerusalem.
It remains to be seen if the rabbi will be extradited to Israel to stand trial for the sexual crimes.
