Rain brings relief to KNP
Updated | By Maidi Monareng
The Kruger National Park (KNP) has received much-needed rain.
It is the first significant rainfall for the season, says park officials.
The severe drought has gripped the park, with many animals dying.
SanParks spokesperson William Mabuza says Skukuza received 30 millimetres of rain while Crocodile Bridge received double the amount.
"The rain will bring significant relief in a sense that in the next two weeks the whole area will be green. Grass will regrow and animals will have food again," Mabuza says.
Recordings of the rainfall in the northern parts of the park have not yet been submitted.
The South African Weather Services says more rain can be expected in Limpopo and Mpumalanga this week.
Forecaster Wayne Venter says: "We have good chances of rainfall in Mpumalanga and the southern parts of Limpopo, mainly from Wednesday until Friday."
