Rain hampers restoration of power in Joburg CBD
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Rainy weather and glitches has prolonged the restoration time for areas in the Johannesburg CBD that have been affected by a tunnel fire, City Power said on Monday.

It's been close to a week since Wemmer, Village Deep, Westgate and Selby have been without power due to the underground fire.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says while repair work was completed on time, the city encountered a number of problems.
"However upon testing, it was discovered that one of the 6.6KV cables from Central to Selby Substation was faulty. The cable has been disconnected and the fault located. Excavations will resume as soon as the rain stops this morning.

"Further work was done at Selby substation which is fed by the tunnel cables and feeds most of the outstanding areas that are still off, including Wemmer, Village Deep, Westgate and Selby. All connections with respect to feeders and the new transformer had been completed. Final connections and system testing had also been done.
“However, upon switching on, two transformer cables blew up on the terminations and the transformer breaker flashed over. The breaker has been removed and the faulty terminations replaced."
