Updated | By Nathan Daniels
Acting National Director of Public Prosecution (NDPP) Silas Ramaite says there is no reason to be concerned about the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

“There shouldn’t be any concern,” Ramaite told the panel sifting through candidates for the prosecutions head, saying most of the NPA’s problems have been ironed.
President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed Ramaite following a Constitutional Court judgement which found Shaun Abrahams’ appointment as NPA head to be invalid.
He is among 11 others vying for the position.
The interviews were conducted at the the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
A member of the panel, chaired by Energy Minister, Jeff Radebe asked Ramaite whether the NPA is experiencing any challenges.
He confidently replied: “As we speak now, no.”
Ramaite did however confirmed that before he headed the prosecuting authority, it was engulfed in problems.
“At the time I was asked to act, there was certainly a big challenge. There was certainly a big challenge and especially at head office.
“The problems were getting back to work, and especially in respect of some of the cases that were already running – to start running again.”
He was asked whether there was any political influence resulting the halt of the prosecution – he struggled to provide clarity.
“It was not a delay problem because some of those cases actually stopped.”
