Ramaphosa to address nation on Wednesday
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
President Cyril Rampahosa will address the nation on Wednesday evening amid intense speculation that the country will move down to level 1 of the lockdown.
The Presidency says Ramaphosa will address South Africans at 19:00.
His address follows a meeting of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) on Monday and a special cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
An easing of the lockdown to level 1 would see a possible end to the curfew and a lifting of the restrictions on the sale of alcohol.
Religious gatherings could also increase, after Ramaphosa told the South African National Editors Forum (Sanef) last week that he had been petitioned to lift the limit of 50 people per gathering.

It’s also being reported that Ramaphosa will open up international travel - but that travel from some high-risk countries will remain banned.
The country has been in lockdown since March after the first cases of Covid-19 were detected from travellers who were on holiday in Italy.
Since then a total of 651 522 cases of the coronavirus have been detected in the country with 15 641 deaths recorded.
Despite these numbers, a significant number of the country’s population has recovered from the deadly virus.
The country’s recovery rate stands at 89.5%, according to the Department of Health.
