Ramaphosa: ANC only party able to resolve electricity crisis
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa says the governing party is the only one able to resolve the country’s electricity crisis.
Ramaphosa was speaking during the party’s election campaign in Meadowlands, Soweto on Monday.
“One wrote ‘no electricity, ANC out’. It’s fine, but who is going to lead? Have you ever thought about who will lead? No one can solve the electricity problem besides the ANC. It’s only the ANC.”
Some residents in Soweto have been without power for months, while others battle regular power cuts known as load reduction.
The rest of the country has also been battling with load shedding as Eskom struggles to keep up with demand due to its ageing fleet.
Eskom has again implemented rolling blackouts, citing a lack of generation capacity.
On Monday, the power utility also extended load shedding implementing it sooner than anticipated.
