Ramaphosa: ANC ran formidable election campaign

President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Wednesday that he remained confident that the ANC would remain in power after the elections.
For the first time since the advent of democracy in 1994, the ANC is at risk of losing its outright majority and could be forced to negotiate a coalition.
Speaking in Chiawelo, Ramaphosa said that during his tenure, the party went through all lengths and breaths of the country to ensure that they retain votes.
"In my mind, in my head and in my thought process, there isn't even a doubt about that. The ANC, under my leadership, ran a formidable campaign.
"We went through the length and breadth of our country to reach out to our people and to also encourage those who were doubtful about voting to register to vote, and we were more pleased we saw more and more people registering to vote".
Ramaphosa shared his sentiments after casting his vote at the Hitekani Primary School in Soweto.
The president said he had no doubt that the people of South Africa would allow the ANC to continue leading the country.
"This is the day when South Africa decides, decide on the future of our country, who should be the government of South Africa, and I have no doubt whatsoever, in my heart of heart, that the people will once again invest confidence in the African National Congress to continue to lead this country.”
He commended the IEC for the smooth running of elections, saying he could have voted for the commission if it had been on the ballot paper.
"I think the IEC gets my vote today. It’s a pity they did not run as a party, but they get my vote, so thank you very much to all of you being here.”
