President Cyril Ramaphosa is studying the ruling by the Constitutional Court that found Shaun Abrahams' position as head of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to be unconstitutional and unlawful.

The highest court in the land ruled that the removal of former National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Mxolisi Nxasana, by former president Jacob Zuma was in need invalid.
This means that Abrahams’ appointment was also invalid.
Delivering a scathing judgment, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga said former president Zuma was hell-bent on getting rid of Nxasana by any means necessary.

The court also ordered Ramaphosa to appoint a new NDPP within 90 days.
Speaking after the ruling, Nxasana had some words of advice for the NPA, saying it must continue doing its work diligently.
"The officials of at the NPA must take a leaf out of this judgment and out of this scenario that took place. People must forget about agendas, people must forget about camps," said Nxasana.
He added the unit should prosecute without fear or favour.
"They must not protect some other individuals, and they must not allow interference by any person at the NPA."

The highest court in the land ruled that Nxasana must pay back a total of R10.7 million out of the R17 million he received as a golden handshake to vacate office.
