[WATCH LIVE] Ramaphosa calls ‘family meeting’ to discuss Covid-19
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation on Wednesday evening on the country’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ramaphosa’s address follows a meeting earlier this week of the National Coronavirus Command Council and another with Cabinet.
It will be the first time he addresses South Africans on the pandemic since mid-September when his government announced a move to level 1 of the lockdown.
Much of the country’s economy is in full swing with the gradual reopening of borders, extended trading hours for alcohol, and an increase in the number of people allowed to attend religious and social gatherings.
But government is still playing it safe with fears of a second wave of the pandemic.
The country now sits at 740 254 cumulative cases, with a 92% recovery rate, and a total of 19 951 Covid-19 fatalities.
