Ramaphosa 'confident' plan will revive decaying Joburg

President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is confident that the Presidential Joburg Working group will help revive the state of the City of Johannesburg.

Ramaphosa and his cabinet concluded a two-day oversight visit to Johannesburg on Friday, aimed at addressing service delivery challenges in the metro.
The President criticized the country's declining economic hub state - as the city prepares to host the G20 leaders’ summit in November.
He also expressed concern about the closure of public facilities, like the Johannesburg Library, the Johannesburg Art Gallery and the Metro Centre.
Ramaphosa also called for the prioritisation of Unfinished and delayed infrastructure projects including Rea Vaya bus stations and the refurbishment of Lilian Ngoyi Street.
The working group will focus on strengthening governance and financial sustainability, improving service delivery, and addressing water and electricity.
The rejuvenation of inner-city hubs and townships, revitalising cultural and heritage institutions.
Ramaphosa also emphasised the need to increase police visibility and enforcement of the by-laws.
"The working group will facilitate partnerships and collaboration and work with social partners to develop implementation plans for challenges not addressed in existing strategies.
"The working group will also monitor implementation plans, track progress and provide recommendations.
"The Presidential Johannesburg Working Group will report regularly to the President and has been given a two-year time frame to complete its work."
