Ramaphosa: State of Joburg during G20 ‘not pleasing’
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his displeasure at the state of Johannesburg during the recent G20 foreign ministers' summit in Nasrec, south of the city.

Ramaphosa made the remarks during a service delivery oversight meeting with the Gauteng provincial government in Johannesburg on Thursday.
Residents of the city have been vocal in their unhappiness over the deteriorating state of the city for years.
The city has been plagued by a water supply crisis, hijacked buildings, crime, unemployment, broken traffic lights, poor infrastructure and sewage spills.
Ramaphosa called on the Gauteng government to make the country’s economic hub “presentable” during the G20 leaders’ summit, which will be held later this year.
"One of the meetings of the G20 that I attended here was not very pleasing. The environment that one observed was not a pleasing environment,” the president said.
"I say this so that we can improve immensely. As South Africans, we are proud people and let us get that pride we have, self-pride to lift us up so that we do present a G20 that will amaze people, so that when people look at what we offer and present, that they can say, ‘WOW this is how South Africans do it’.”
Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero previously said the city would intensify its clean-up campaigns, including fixing potholes and increasing police visibility as it prepares to host world leaders.
