Ramaphosa ends leadership vacuum at NPA
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
President Cyril Ramaphosa filled four high-level vacancies at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) including the Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions (DNDPP) position.

Advocate Anton du Plessis has been appointed as the DNDPP.
President Cyril Ramaphosa made the appointment after consultation with Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola and NDPP Shamila Batohi.
Other senior appointments include Lebogang Dineo Baloyi who will be taking up a position at the Specialised Commercial Crime Unit, Bonnie Currie-Gamwo who will aim to strengthen the sexual offences division and Priya Biseswar as a director at the Asset forfeiture unit.
“These appointments are essential for the efficient functioning and rebuilding of the NPA as part of the fight against serious crime, including sexual and gender-based crimes and corruption, and as a contribution to deepening the capability of the state,” says Ramaphosa’s spokesperson Tyrone Seale.
Seale believes du Plessis’s international experience on security will bolster the NPA.
“Adv du Plessis is currently the Legal and Criminal Justice Coordinator of the United Nations Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate in New York. He leads the UN’s work on the legal and criminal justice elements of the Security Council’s response to terrorism.
“He was previously the Executive Director of the Institute for Security Studies and served with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna.”
