Ramaphosa heads to London for 2023 Rugby World Cup announcement

South Africa has been identified as the ideal candidate to host the event, but the final decision rests on a secret vote by members of the World Rugby Council.

The World Rugby Council is set to announce the host country of the 2023 Rugby World Cup on Wednesday.
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will lead Team SA in a visit to London for the announcement.
South Africa has recently been named the desired candidate to host the tournament.
"This follows an exhaustive tendering, clarification and evaluation process," reads a statement by Ramaphosa's office.
Competing bidders France and Ireland were rated as the second and third most desireable candidates respectively.
But before the announcement, members will first vote.
18 countries and regional bodies are eligable to vote in the secrot ballot, among them, Australia, New Zealand, England, Wales, Rugby Africa and Rugby Europe.
A simple majority will secure the hosting rights.
Ramaphosa has largely been credited to have played a valuable role in the bidding process so far.
He will be accompanied by, among others, the Minister of Sport and Recreation Thulas Nxesi, SA Rugby President Mark Alexander and CEO Jurie Roux.
