Ramaphosa lauds Soweto Gospel Choir as ‘real heroes’

President Cyril Ramaphosa has lauded the award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir as the real heroes of the nation.
Ramaphosa spent some time with the choir at the Market Theatre Square in Newtown on Thursday after the group scooped a third Grammy Award last month.
He told the choir that their exploits have made the country proud.
“I congratulate you many times over. And thank you for being as successful as you are.”

The award-winning album ‘Freedom’ was recorded in 2018 as part of the group`s tribute to the 100 Years of Mandela celebrations.
Ramaphosa said the choir has touched many lives across the globe with their music and that it is playing its part in uplifting the nation.
“Today we are recognizing you as the Soweto Gospel Choir, for your outstanding ambassadorship in the music industry, not just at home but beyond our shores as well.”
Choir member and general manager Mulalo Mulovhedzi said it was a special gift to be honoured at home.
“Normally we get all this things overseas but to be honoured at home is a very, very special gift.”
